The World According to Color goes deep into one color for each chapter and collects stories from both art history and beyond to illuminate the meanings colors have for us, around the world. The book shows how artists, scientists, writers, philosophers, explorers and inventors have both shaped, and been shaped by, the many meanings of color throughout the ages.

James Fox is Director of Studies in the History of Art at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. His many acclaimed BBC documentaries include programs on British art, Japanese culture and an enduringly popular series on color in art.
