Catalog published in connection with the Marina Abramović exhibition at the Royal Academy in London in autumn 2023. Over the past half century, Marina Abramović (b. 1946) has achieved worldwide recognition as a pioneer of performance art. The catalog brings expert voices into the debate about Abramovic's groundbreaking art: How far should an artist push themselves in pursuit of their work? What role does the audience play in creating a performance? How can performance art survive the moment in which it takes place?
The catalog complements the first UK exhibition to include works from across Abramovic's career. Re-enactments of some of her best-known and most radical works are displayed alongside more recent works.
An augmented-reality app for iOS and Android allows readers to watch movies of Abramović's original performances while reading the book.
