Elementhuse , written by author Dorthe Bendtsen, shows how the limitations of past times can inspire us to tackle today's challenges – among other things by living smaller and using fewer resources.

Between 1947 and 1955, the Danish state supported the construction of single-family houses with alternative materials and methods to alleviate the post-war housing crisis. These so-called modular houses, built in wood or concrete, had simple architecture and a compact design that saved materials.

Although the houses look ordinary, it required pioneering spirit and courage from manufacturers, architects and builders to plunge into the new construction. In Elementhuse, restoration architect Dorthe Bendtsen tells the story of these innovative houses, many of which are still found in attractive residential areas.
