PASSAGE by the internationally renowned Danish photographer Søren Solkær, is a collection of photographic journeys over the past two decades, where photography has taken Søren around the world. The book illustrates personal art projects and portraits of some of the world's biggest names in music, film and visual arts. As a consequence, airports and aircraft interiors all over the world have formed a well-known backdrop for Søren's working life.
During his travels, Søren Solkjær has consistently booked the seats in front of or behind the plane wing, and photographing the wing and the turbine became a regular ritual and a meditative practice associated with travel life. The book consists of some of the most memorable moments from his flights. Often semi-abstract images depicting ice crystals, rainbows, huge cloud formations, metallic constructions or the sea of light seen during night flyovers of the world's great metropolises. He has also incorporated his fascination with the graphics and design used in aviation - from the fonts, the graphic markings on the runways to the aerodynamic beauty of the wings. The images unfold from the ethereal and meditative to explosions of light and the extreme forces of nature. The book contains 124 images selected from a material of 50,000 images taken between 2001 and 2016.
