"Birds dangle on a thread, they play with air and light and tell stories that are always different". The Italian designer, Benedetta Mori Ubaldini, has created the soaring bird in metal mesh for the Italian design brand, Magis. Ubaldini says of the metal mesh that it is usually a hidden material used only as an inner frame for sculptures. While this as a bird becomes present and finds its own beauty and is transformed into a figure in a poetic world. Ubaldini's bird comes with a hook to attach to the ceiling.
Benedetta works in many materials, but is best known here for her innovative and extraordinary thread work. Each piece starts life as industrially produced, coiled "chicken wire" which is gradually shaped by hand.
Before moving to Milan in 2005, Ubaldini lived and studied in London, where she studied Art and Design at Westminster College of Adult Education and then Fine Arts at Middlesex University.
The roots of the Magi brand lie in Motta di Livenza, a small town in the heart of the Veneto region. This is where the challenge of designing and the desire to create a place of authentic creativity arose. Since 2010, Magis has been designing and manufacturing in nearby Torre di Mosto. Magis manufactures in Italy to preserve the local tradition of craftsmanship and meet the most exacting standards of Italian-made quality.
