From the 1930s to the 1960s, women artists from all over the world were part of the Surrealist movement – not only as partners, muse and models, but as active performing artists. And although their original art helped to expand Surrealism's visual universe, many of the female artists were forgotten – unlike the male protagonists.
In this large and richly illustrated catalogue, published in connection with the exhibition Fantastic Women, the works of 36 female artists are unfolded, and in the catalogue's many texts the focus is on Meret Oppenheim over Leonora Carrington to the surrealists in Mexico.
