Louisiana revue: Per Kirkeby - Bronze by Poul Erik Tøjner, Erik Steffensen, Ulrich Wilmes and Helle Brøns. Per Kirkeby's work forms one of the focal points of Louisiana's collection, and the museum has shown several large exhibitions with him. But with the exhibition Per Kirkeby – Bronze, the artist's sculptures unfold as an independent practice.
In 1981, Kirkeby – after a crisis in painting – began working with sculpture in plaster and clay, which was then cast in bronze. Many of Per Kirkeby's bronzes look like frozen brushstrokes, as if they had been lifted out of paintings and given body. Others almost look like standing picture walls. This Louisiana Revue, published for the exhibition, provides a thorough introduction to both Kirkeby's life and work and highlights some of the artist's major inspirations, including the French sculptor Rodin.
