In 1932, Meret Oppenheim moved from southern Germany and Switzerland to Paris, where she was invited by Arp and Giacometti to exhibit together with the Surrealists at the Salon des Surindepéndants in 1933. She moved in the circle of Surrealists and in 1936 created the famous, fur-clad tea cup - Lunch in fur - which becomes the epitome of the surrealist work - and also bought by MoMA in New York.

Both in Paris and later in Bern, Oppenheim belongs to a lively art environment, although she also changes her focus along the way and, in the late 1950s, distances herself from surrealism.
