The dining chair, J41, is a classic cane chair, originally designed by the world-famous, Danish furniture architect, Børge Mogensen for FDB and here relaunched by Danish HAY. Master Mogensen insisted on function: that his chairs fit those who needed them, and not the other way around. Quality, simplicity, a clear, clean aesthetic and precise proportions repeat themselves in Børge Mogensen's furniture, which helped shape Danish modernism.
Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) became one of Denmark's most significant furniture architects. Most people have met his designs, from the early, at the time very modern, designs for FDB - of which the J41 is one of them - to a large number of other famous pieces of furniture that are both at home and in public spaces.
Børge Mogensen's ability to create one furniture classic after another also resulted in a long series of awards that Mogensen received throughout his professional life: for example the Eckersberg medal in 1950 and the CF Hansens medal in 1972.
Like J41, a large number of Børge Mogensen's other furniture is still produced and sold to this day - including sofas, coffee tables, dining tables and other of his chairs.
