Palads , published by Marrow Press, dedicated exclusively to the decoration of Palace Theatre. The decoration of Palace Theatre has been a significant feature in Copenhagen's cityscape since the work was unveiled to the public on an early September morning in 1989. Palads is not only one of Poul Gernes's most famous works, but also one of the most controversial works of art in the public space here at home .
The purpose of the publication is to consider Palads from new perspectives in order to contribute to the understanding of the work's relevance today and to document the decoration while it still exists.
The book takes a simultaneous look at decoration, and primarily contains contributions from younger, active voices from the Danish contemporary art scene. Curator Kristian Vistrup Madsen reflects on Palads' position in the aesthetic currents of the time, starting from his uncle's dental clinic, which was also decorated by Poul Gernes. Architect Natalie P. Koerner has written a text about the surroundings of the decoration and the buildings that characterize the urban space around Palads Teatret, while curator Anders Kold contributes a defense of Palads in a text that was originally written as a response to a consultation with Copenhagen Municipality.
