Over the centuries, Copenhagen has inspired both visual artists and writers. The art historian, Bente Scavenius and the literary critic, Bo Tao Michaëlis have selected 75 of the best images and 75 of the best texts with Copenhagen as a common theme - and put them together so that they complement each other.
City pictures do not just present the artists' and writers' depictions of the city – Scavenius and Michaëlis also analyze the works in a larger context. In this way, they tell a new story about Copenhagen – a story of consciousness that shows different times' views of the city and the people in it.

since 1990 has been a literary and cultural critic at the daily newspaper Politiken.
