Braided birds are created by the Holmsted family, who for three generations have drawn, cut and braided hundreds of different kinds of birds from their workshop on Bornholm. The braided birds are a new interpretation of the traditional Christmas hearts that HC Andersen introduced in Denmark, and they can be braided all year round - you're welcome! With this do-it-yourself package, you get everything you need to braid your own blue tit. The only thing you need to find is a glue stick.
Architect Henning Holmsted, was an equilibrist with scissors in hand and in 1960 the craft was combined with an interest in birds - and the first braided bird saw the light of day.
Lars Holmsted then took over his father's sharp scissors and several birds flew from the nest. Today, Henning's grandchildren are also involved in the braiding and this is how the tradition flies.
With the Do-it-yourself birds, the Holmsted family wants to create pleasant moments of calm and contemplation for the whole family, while at the same time it can inspire people to get out and experience the birds in their natural element.
The packaging for the braided birds is made of recycled paper and the braiding instructions are on the inside of the packaging. When/if the bird has to be packed up, the packaging is a "nice nest" for the bird.
Blue tit (Parus caeruleus) blue color is very predominant, and this is also how it can be distinguished from other tits. The blue tit lives in deciduous forests, gardens and parks and is a frequent visitor to the food board. Eats insects and in winter seeds and berries. Likes to breed in set-up nest boxes.
The bird is handmade from paper and will therefore vary in color and finish.
