The penguin in beech wood was designed by Hans Bunde in 1954. The varying structure of the beech wood makes each individual penguin unique. The back is hand-painted black and resembles shiny penguin feathers in the bright Antarctic sun, while the front of the penguin is preserved in the raw, untreated wood.
Hans Bunde was actually a silversmith, but out of love for his sisters, he created Penguin and handcrafted a unique wooden penguin for each. In the penguins, Hans Bunde combined the love for his sisters with the fascination of the special animals, which are known, among other things, to stick to lifelong, monogamous relationships.
The penguin with its organic lines and shades has been put into production again by Danish Architechtmade. Penguin is available in mini, small and large, see them here .
