The penguin was designed by Hans Bunde in 1954. Bunde's penguin is also available in pure beech wood with a black-painted back, but here in the Wengé variant, the back is turned from the dark, African wood variety of the same name: Wengé - with the characteristic, fine grain patterns.
Hans Bunde was actually a silversmith, but for his sisters he created Penguin and handcrafted a unique wooden penguin for each. In the penguins, Hans Bunde combined the love for his sisters with the fascination of the special animals, which are known, among other things, to stick to lifelong, monogamous relationships.
The penguin with its organic lines and shades has been put into production again by Danish Architechtmade.
