Madame , the hand-woven lounge chair, originally designed in 1951 by Nanna Ditzel and her husband, Jørgen Ditzel and here reintroduced by Sika Design. Ditzel's experimental approach to materials resulted in the shell shape with its soft and feminine shapes – hence the name Madame chair.
Madame is handmade in sustainable Indonesian rattan and woven by hand by skilled basket makers. Sika-Design uses carefully selected rattan for furniture production to ensure the highest quality.
Rattan is often compared to bamboo, but unlike bamboo, which is hollow, rattan is a solid material. Rattan is a remarkably strong and almost indestructible material, and it also helps to make the furniture sustainable.
