Earrings, Grass, in sterling silver, plated with 22 carat gold from Flora Danica. The story of Flora Danica jewelry goes back to 1952, when one of the beloved variety artists of the 1930s, Orla Eggert, developed the idea of making jewelry based on nature's unique designs. Here, the original structure of the blade of grass itself is well preserved.
___
The first Flora Danica jewelry was based on a copper plating of flowers and leaves, which was skillfully transformed by skilled professionals into a piece of jewelry that was subsequently plated with 22 karat gold.
Already in the 1960s, Flora Danica was having difficulty obtaining all the flowers and leaves that were needed for the rapidly growing production. It was especially difficult to obtain all the four-leaf clovers that customers requested. Therefore, there was a regular advertisement in the newspaper encouraging people to hand in four-leaf clovers every Sunday - and as a reward there was one krone per four-leaf clover.
Many of Flora Danica's jewelry were - and still are to this day - based 100% on the original casts of flowers and leaves from Danish nature in the 1950s and 60s.
