In Jan Groth - Drawings, sculptures and tapestries, art historian Peter S. Meyer portrays the life and practice of the uncompromising artist. Based on a study of drawing in an expanded field, the book opens up the intensity of an artistry that, more than anything else, is concerned with the creation of the artwork and the emotions it arouses in the viewer.

Jan Groth (1938-2022) dedicated his artistic practice to the exploration of line in drawings, sculptures and tapestries. From lyrical-abstract paintings in the 1950s, he moved to a minimalist and monochrome idiom, where the line became the main motif. With his international breakthrough at the Betty Parsons Gallery in New York in 1972, he came among like-minded people on the American avant-garde art scene, and he is today represented in leading art museums in the United States and Europe.
