Dawn lamp

Dawn - a truly award-winning wall lamp from the Danish design brand, Motarasu. The academy-educated designers, Anne Brandhøj and Eva Fly, in their joint venture, Bly Studio, designed Dawn for Motarasu. The lamp won first prize in the TV program, Danmarks Næste Klassiker in 2022 and in the category, Light, the lamp also won the Scandinavian Design Award 2023. Dawn's seemingly simple geometric shape contains a surprise element for most people: When the shade is opened and unfolded, the circle transforms into new shapes and the light flows in a new way, determined by the user.

Motarasu was founded in 2019 by Mikkel Zebitz. Zebitz is inspired by Japanese design and aesthetics. But while classic Danish designers, as well as contemporary designers, have largely relied on Japan for inspiration, Zebitz wanted to change that: "Motarasu" means "to change" in Japanese - by uniting the designers of the two nations to create modern design together. Art and nature are key elements in the designs of Motarasu, who work from their showroom in Frederiksgade in Copenhagen.

Dawn has two light sources that can be switched on and off separately. When the lampshade is opened, the direction and amount of light is determined. There is a built-in dimmer, which allows the brightness to be adjusted to the preferred reading light.

The flexible lampshade is made of structured Japanese PVC-coated washi paper with a light-tight plastic foil on the back. The oak strip creates friction against the lampshade and holds it in place in different positions chosen by the user.
