Per Bak Jensen (b. 1949) is often (rightly) said to be a pioneer in his field. In his tireless search for photographic expression, he has created a number of photo series that have established him as one of the most important art photographers in Scandinavia.
For Bak Jensen, who never manipulates his images, it is essential to capture a certain timelessness, which in his own words captures “the essence of places.” Per Bak Jensen was an associate professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen until 2009, and has inspired many young Scandinavian artists through his unique photographic working methods.
Per Bak Jensen's work is represented in a number of public collections worldwide, including MoMA, New York; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Bibliothéque Nationale, Paris - and in the Louisiana collection.
