___
Røros Tweed is a continuation of the Hiorts Foundation's handicraft business. It began with weaving courses in 1938, where the textiles were produced in people's private homes. Later, investments were made in machinery and the factory's production is now concentrated on textiles made of 100% pure new wool, with designs that are often inspired by the cultural heritage and fascinating high mountain nature of Røros.
Peder Hiort, who was director of Røros Copperworks in the 18th century, bequeathed his entire fortune to the poor in Røros - a will that is characterized as one of the wisest donations in the Nordic countries, as it showed exceptional foresight and a social responsibility that still has its justification today in other parts of the world.
Kristine Five Melvær holds a Master's degree in Industrial Design and a Master's degree in Visual Communication. She explores the subject of object communication, bridging the gap between product design and graphic design in her sensuous objects with a Scandinavian simplicity.
