Carpet – THE GARDEN

The S.N.S HERNING brand was founded in 1919 by manufacturer Søren Nielsen Skyt. From his early youth he supported himself by selling home-made woolen and linen goods - in common with many other enterprising men of the time. An inventory from 20 October 1923 shows that his range of goods ranged from woolen waistcoats, men's undergarments, woolen socks, men's woolen jumpers, women's jumpers, ladies' undershirts - and most importantly: the sailor's shirt.

In the early years, Søren Nielsen Skyt knitted with his father on the hand machines that were popular at the time. The difficulty was getting the machines to replicate ideas from the hand-knitted designs. They succeeded in finding an original solution - and it was later to prove to be an extremely durable one of its kind.
