Art for All. Art History provides an overview of five important art movements from the late 19th century to the 20th century: Impressionism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Pop Art. Taken together, the book shows how these movements changed the development of art and had a major influence on modern art.
Impressionism, with artists such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir , focused on light and moments from everyday life. Expressionism, represented by Edvard Munch and Wassily Kandinsky , among others, expressed strong emotions through distorted forms. Surrealism, with artists such as Salvador Dalí and René Magritte , explored dreams and the subconscious. Later, Abstract Expressionism, with Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko , emphasized spontaneity and strong emotions in painting. Finally, Pop Art, represented by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein , connected art with popular culture and advertising.
