Fungi – Signed edition

Fungi by Nicolai Howalt is an artistic and experimental photo book, where different species of fungi are directly involved in the image formation itself. By growing fungi on photo paper, in petri dishes or as paper-thin layers, Howalt creates images where the growth, decomposition and structures of the fungi become visual impressions. The book examines the relationship between human control and the fungi's own agency and functions as a poetic reflection on ecology, time, transformation and the materiality of photography.
At a time when fungi are receiving increasing attention as keys to ecological balance, medicine, and sustainable innovation, the book collects Howalt's experimental works in a poetic and tactile volume designed by Rasmus Koch Studio and printed by Narayana Press, with accompanying texts by Morten Søndergaard and mycologist Henning Knudsen.
