The frame is made of oak veneer.
Two boys are swimming just below Louisiana. Summer shimmers over Øresund, everything seems so carefree, innocent. But is there something lurking on the horizon...?
Wolfgang Tillmans captured the motif with his unique sensibility when he visited the museum in connection with the exhibition, NowHere.
Tillmans' international career truly took off in the years that followed, and in 2003, the museum was able to showcase a solo exhibition of Tillmans' work. And then, in 2019, it finally succeeded – with support from the Augustinus Foundation – in acquiring this particular early work, Louisiana1996, for the collection – completing the circle.
Tillmans' photographic work spans portraits, reportage, still lifes, landscape photography, and darkroom experiments with the use of light, paper, and liquids.
Tillmans' images, in all their diversity, reflect both a private view and a shared culture. By placing himself on the same level as the viewer in terms of viewpoint and presentation, an accessibility arises that imperceptibly gives rise to dialogues where photographer, motif, medium, and viewer are equal partners and together form new significant stories – both shared and private.
