Anton Räderscheidt – Illust House No. 9 (1921) Sale price€35,95

Louisiana print with the work, Illust Haus Nr. 9, (1921), House No. 9 , by the German artist, Anton Räderscheidt, (1892-1970). The poster was published in 2022 in connection with Louisiana's exhibition on Germany in the 1920s, The Cold Eye. Anton Räderscheidt depicts human figures without faces, in empty and impersonal urban environments. The strong colors and vivid technique of expressionism are transformed into a smoother representation with matte colors.

___

In 1920s Germany, artists in the artistic direction of the period, Neue Sachlichkeit, sought to capture modern everyday life and to portray people's lives and work in a realistic and sober manner, often devoid of sensitive empathy and ranging from the stark and satirical to the razor-sharp, almost clinical.

While expressionist art cultivated the individual, the ideal of the 1920s became standardization. The special is erased in favor of standardized models, prototypes, and simple forms that can be reproduced.
