Cecily Brown builds tableaus with equal parts irony, heroism and grip from pornography. Despite the often light touch, she often draws inspiration for her world of motifs from human conflicts.

Cecily Brown is considered one of the figures who helped to pave the way for the resurgence of painting in recent times. Brown works with many current issues, among others the dissolution of traditional gender roles, the politicized everyday life and the restless, erotic energy of the times.

Cecily Brown is often compared to Francis Bacon and Francisco Goya.
