The Ugly Duckling illustrated by Marina Abramovic – Danish

The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen, illustrated by Marina Abramović . In connection with Louisiana's exhibition with Marina Abramović in 2017, the artist created a series of new illustrations for Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale from 1843 – a fairy tale that the famous performance artist has felt connected to since she was a child.

“In my childhood and youth, I identified completely with the fairy tale. I was also the ugly duckling,” the artist writes in the book’s afterword. Abramović has interpreted Andersen’s tale with pencil and crayon drawings. The text in the Danish edition is a completely new, revised language edition based on HC Andersen’s original text.
