The book The Pot Book is a comprehensive presentation of ceramics spanning more than 30,000 years, curated by artist and author Edmund de Waal. This edition of the book is signed.
The history of ceramics is closely linked to human history. As one of the earliest crafts, ceramics dates back to the late Stone Age and bears witness to the material's importance in both past and present everyday life.
The Pot Book brings together more than 300 ceramic objects from different periods and parts of the world. Selected by artist and author Edmund de Waal, the book ranges from jugs, vases, and plates to cups, amphorae, and many other forms.
Among the works, you will find everything from a hand-painted jug created by an unknown Chinese ceramicist in the third millennium BC to a fine porcelain plate from 18th-century Copenhagen, a playful vase by the Italian designer Ettore Sottsass, and contemporary works by Phoebe Collings-James, Theaster Gates, Simone Leigh, and Grayson Perry.
Each work is presented on its own page with a large image, key information, and a brief introduction. The entries are organized alphabetically by artist, ceramicist, school, or style, together creating an inspiring journey through some of the most remarkable works in the history of ceramics.
