Chawan Cup

Chawan cup by the faroese ceramic artist and owner of the ceramics workshop Leirlist in the heart of Tórshavn. For the Louisiana shop, she has created a series of unique chawans – Japanese-inspired tea cups. In her glazes, she works with local materials such as ash, tuff, sand, and basalt, which she prepares herself. The brown chawans in the Louisiana series are glazed with basalt.

Leirlist is a ceramics workshop in the heart of Tórshavn. In the basement of the over hundred-year-old family house, the artist Guðrið Poulsen has been working for forty years with both functional objects and larger commissioned works. Guðrið is trained in Finland and Iceland and was awarded, among others, the Faroese Ministry of Culture’s honorary award in 2022. Alongside her ceramic practice, she has exhibited sculptures throughout the Nordic countries as well as in Japan, the USA, and Germany, together with other Faroese artists. In 2023, she created a monument for women who died in childbirth – a five-metre-high ceramic sculpture made in one piece at Tommerup Ceramics Workshop. In addition to her artistic practice, Guðrið is also a writer. A poetry collection has been published in Danish by the Aarhus-based publishing house Herman & Frudit. She is deeply connected to the landscape and society she is part of, which is clearly reflected in her ceramic works.
