This summer's major Louisiana exhibition is the first comprehensive presentation in Scandinavia of Franz Gertsch (1930-2022). The Swiss artist shaped a new, distinctive concept of realism in the second half of the 20th century and gained international fame for his photorealistic paintings and woodcuts. He used photographic models and projections before transforming the motifs into paintings using a special method and thanks to his perfect craftsmanship.
The exhibition was created in collaboration with the artist, who died in December 2022. It is therefore both the last exhibition he helped prepare and the first major Franz Gertsch presentation after his death. It was created with the great support of the Franz Gertsch Museum in Burgdorf and will subsequently be shown at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg.
