Cushion with hand-printed melon pattern designed by Danish textile artist Marie Gudme Leth. The pattern is an example of the new, lush floral style that she developed in the 1940s, and also shows how flowers and other natural motifs became much more finely drawn, almost sketchy, giving the patterns a vivid and artistic expression.
During this period, Gudme Leth began working with vibrant and cheerful colors, exploiting the technical possibilities of overprinting to create multiple color nuances directly in the printing process. This gave her designs a depth and richness not previously seen in her work.
Her design style may also be influenced by several other sources of inspiration, including Scandinavian folk art, Art Nouveau, botanical illustrations, and contemporary modernist movements such as Bauhaus. These influences are united in the Melon Pattern, where the lushness and detail of nature are blended with a technical and artistic innovation that was characteristic of her work during the period.
The cushion cover measures 50 x 50 cm with a print on the front and a solid-colored back. A down cushion is included. The textile is hand-printed at Frösö Handtryck in Northern Sweden, and since the motif is hand-printed, individual prints may vary.
It is recommended to dry clean the pillow, not wash it.
