Birdhouse – KOTI

Birdhouse KOTI designed by Finnish Mika and Julie Tolvanen for the Finnish design brand Pidät. KOTI is a wall-mounted, triangular birdhouse made of handcrafted ceramic. The name means home in Finnish, and the design was developed with a focus on both aesthetics and function. Birds have embraced this modern architecture, building triangular nests in the house for three consecutive years, which underlines its functionality as a nesting site.

The birdhouse is produced in a Portuguese factory with extensive expertise in ceramics. It is mounted on a wooden rail, can be easily removed for cleaning, and the rough internal surface helps fledglings climb out. The 32 mm entrance hole makes the house suitable for several species of small songbirds.

Pidät was founded by Mika and Julie Tolvanen, a Finnish-American design duo who are also behind Studio Tolvanen, a design studio established in 2015. Mika Tolvanen is a Finnish designer who graduated from the Royal College of Art in London. He has many years of experience in international design work and is known for functional and minimalist solutions with a strong, clear design language. Julie Tolvanen is an American designer with a background in architecture and cabinetmaking. She holds a master's degree in furniture design from Aalto University and works with a strong technical understanding of materials, construction, and craftsmanship.

As each birdhouse is handmade, minor variations in color and size may occur.
