Postcard - Remedios Varo – Meeting (1959)

Remedios Varo, who declared that "the dream world and the real world are the same," attempted in an almost alchemical way to combine widely different techniques, fantasies, and conceptions in her paintings, which have an enigmatic, cinematic character and often incorporate hybrid creatures.

She utilized the chance-based processes of surrealism but was at the same time incredibly precise, meticulous, and classical in her painterly expression and in her colour scheme, which has clear references to Italian painting from the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance.
