Anti-reflective framing of the work The Day After (2020) by the Swedish painter, Karin Mamma Andersson (b. 1962), which Louisiana presented in 2021 with the exhibition, Humdrum Days. The poster comes framed with a matte laminated surface that significantly reduces reflections from light sources compared to ordinary glass and provides a beautiful, calm visual expression without glare. The frame is made of oak veneer.
Mamma Andersson stands as one of her generation's most important painters, and Louisiana presented her for the first time on a large scale in Denmark. She constructs her paintings based on art historical references and found photographs, films, and historical clippings. It is painting on painting, images on images when Andersson's works unfold in a universe of suggestive and emotionally charged narratives in vast landscapes, interiors, and portraits:
The Nordic landscape with slopes, spruce forests, and the special, contrasting light. Dolls, often as a substitute for people, giving the painting a solidified, object-like character. Figures with their backs turned, their averted faces making the picture mysterious. And the color black, often in several shades and materials, oversprayed or roughly applied, creating a striking darkness in the picture, a darkness the artist herself associates with death.
Louisiana's exhibition presented 60 Mamma Andersson works - including 10 new paintings, produced specifically for the exhibition.
