About Røros Tweed

Røros Tweed is a continuation of Hiorts Stiftelse's handicraft business. It began with weaving courses in 1938, where textiles were produced in people's private homes. Later, machines were invested in, and the factory's production is now concentrated on textiles of 100% pure new wool – with designs often inspired by the cultural heritage and the fascinating high mountain nature of Røros.

Peder Hiort, who was the director of Røros Copper Works in the 18th century, bequeathed his entire fortune to the poor of Røros – a testament that has been characterized as one of the wisest donations in the Nordic countries, as it showed unique foresight and social responsibility, which is still relevant today.
