Candles – Kome-No-Megumi 12 pcs. Sale price€25,95

Handmade candle, Kome-No-Megumi, from the Japanese design brand Takazawa. The candles are made from rice bran wax. The name of the candles means “blessing of rice.” Rice has been a staple food in Japan since ancient times.

Since 1892, Takazawa Candle in Nanao, Japan, has been producing candles in harmony with nature. The candles are made from plant-based materials such as sumac wax, rice husks and rapeseed oil – a tradition that dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries, when beeswax was unknown to Japanese artisans.

Production of the candles starts early in the morning, where raw wax is melted in large cauldrons heated with local wood from the Noto Peninsula. The melted wax is then poured into wooden or metal molds, and the final shape of the candle is completed by hand with a small knife, ensuring each candle has a perfect finish.

The city of Nanao has historically been an important center for candle production, with raw materials such as sumac wax and washi paper being brought to the city and distributed throughout Japan via the Kitamae ships. Today, Takazawa Candle is the only manufacturer to keep this over 100-year-old tradition alive, creating candles that provide warmth, atmosphere and a connection to Japan's culture and history.

Please note that the candle cannot be extinguished by blowing. Use a wick extinguisher to extinguish the flame safely and gently.
