Bowl in ash wood – M
Choose options

Exclusive ash bowl from the Danish, award-winning design brand, Egeværk, by furniture designers Mette Bentzen and Lasse Kristensen, who have exhibited their Nordic-toned and nature-inspired works all over the world. The Egeværk bowl here is created from leftover wood from the Egeværk Studio and is processed to a silky smooth surface. For every bowl sold, the brand plants a new tree in a Danish forest.
___
Each Egeværk piece is created in a long process, while a “friendly dispute” takes place between the two cabinetmakers. Inspiration from nature is first translated through joint sketching. Initial ideas are further developed by exploring the unique beauty of a given piece of wood.
Mette Bentzen is the primary decision-maker at the beginning of the tangible process of creating the work. Bentzen has an in-depth knowledge of the properties of different types of wood and ensures that the construction of the work supports the creative vision behind it. Every wood fiber is carefully considered before a plank is sawn into smaller pieces and carefully assembled. Lasse Kristensen is responsible for the majority of the manual shaping work.
Although the process is linear from inspiration to sketching, construction and hand-shaping, both creators agree that the real magic happens when they let the wood help shape the finished work. They also agree that while they sometimes argue heatedly along the way, they always speak nicely to the wood.
Lasse Kristensen and Mette Bentzen both trained at the renowned PP Møbler – a Danish carpentry company that has been known for its large portfolio of modern Danish furniture since 1953. The years at PP Møbler made Mette Bentzen and Lasse Kristensen experts in the famous Wegner furniture – and their efforts were rewarded with silver medals.
After graduating, Lasse Kristensen won both the Danish and Nordic championships in carpentry, and later represented Denmark at the World Championship in Japan. In connection with the World Championship, Lasse received the Mærsk Scholarship and the Poul & Gurli Madsen Scholarship. These supported his travels and studies in Japan with Hinoki Kogei under Tadanori Tozawa.
Mette Bentzen chose the carpentry profession after studying at the Copenhagen School of Art and left a successful career as a multimedia designer to take up an apprenticeship at PP Møbler. It was a three-year journey around the world that sparked her interest in finer woodwork.
As a duo, Mette Bentzen and Lasse Kristensen have received the Carpentry Award, Danish Design Awards (Best Craftsmanship) and other awards.
