Louisiana Edition of the work New Orleans by American artist Jon Kessler. The work, created in connection with a presentation of the artist's major work Palace of 4 am on Louisiana in 2008, shows a flooded Alberto Giacometti work - flooded by the disaster, Hurricane Katrina.
In 2008, when Louisiana showed Jon Kessler's (born 1957) large work Palace of 4.am, the work filled a hall and was, in a sense, one big image machine, a labyrinth of projections and installations, all about our political present - which was a piece of global journalistic reality reduced to puppetry. With references to political culture's nature of spectacle and permanent marketing, Kessler used art as activist protest.
About Louisiana Editions
The Louisiana Edition is original graphics, created directly for Louisiana by artists who have exhibited at the museum in recent years and are all represented in the museum's collection. These are obvious collector's items.
When Louisiana celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008, a number of the artists who have exhibited at the museum were asked to create a graphic work that could then be sold to support Louisiana. The series has since been continuously expanded.
The works are produced in limited editions (most in an edition of 30) and priced in accordance with the artists themselves, who have generously wanted to support Louisiana, as the income from the series will go uncut for new purchases for the museum's collection. The works are unframed unless otherwise stated.
