The Akari Light 1A table lamp was designed by the Japanese-American artist and landscape architect Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) back in 1951 and reissued by the Swiss brand Vitra. The lamp is part of Noguchi's famous Akari Light Sculpture collection and is handmade in the special Japanese washi paper (rice paper): "Through the magic of paper, the hardness of electric light is transformed back into the light of our origin - the sun", as Noguchi himself put it.

Isamu Noguchi's work is exceptionally multifaceted - from art to industrial design. Since 2002, Vitra has produced reissues of several of Noguchi's designs in collaboration with the Isamu Noguchi Foundation in New York, where Noguchi also lived and worked for many years.
