"Pure colours, simple shapes, real craftsmanship and good technique". This is how the chemical engineer Nathalie Krebs referred to her dream of Saxbo when she started the stoneware workshop in 1929. The book gives an insight into Saxbo's history and tells about glazes, firings and bottom marks, documents important works and depicts the workshop's international importance and sources of inspiration. At the same time, the book unfolds Nathalie Krebs' life as an entrepreneur, glaze artist and pioneering woman in a male profession.
From the beginning, Saxbo had to mass-produce utility items at reasonable prices, as opposed to the exclusive one-of-a-kind clothing that dominated the market. In collaboration with Eva Stæhr-Nielsen, who for many years was the workshop's main designer, and artisans such as Gunnar Nylund, Lillian Binderup Jensen, Axel Salto, Jais Nielsen and Kirsten Weeke, Saxbo created iconic objects. Nathalie Krebs equipped the works with glazes, which she continued to develop throughout the years.
An actual mass production never took place, and at the last burning of the workshop in 1968, Nathalie Krebs could look back on a voluminous production of art treasures, which today form part of private and public collections.
