Where does Tal R's painting begin? Was it when a couple of artists from Cologne visited the art academy in Copenhagen in 1998? Was it the meeting with the video artists of the 1990s that showed a new path for figurative painting? Or did it begin long before the Academy era with a painting of pink Nazis?
For more than 25 years, Tal R has been an unavoidable figure on the Danish art scene. Right from the start, he dreamed of painting and of telling stories, even if the time was not for "the big story" and certainly not in painting. You had to "enter the painting sideways", as Tal R puts it.
Tal R Maleri is the first comprehensive presentation of his multifaceted painting practice. It follows the changing form of painting from the 1990s until today, when Tal R is internationally recognized as a significant innovator of figurative painting.
The book is written by Pernille Albrethsen, art critic at Weekendavisen and Copenhagen editor for the Scandinavian online magazine Kunstkritikk. She has a master's degree. in modern culture from the University of Copenhagen and New York University.
