Dawn - a truly award-winning wall lamp from the Danish design brand, Motarasu. The academy-educated designers, Anne Brandhøj and Eva Fly, have designed Dawn for Motarasu in their joint Bly Studio. The lamp won the first prize in the TV programme, Denmark's Next Classic in 2022 and in the category, Light, the lamp also won the Scandinavian Design Award 2023. Dawn's apparently simple geometric shape holds for most people a moment of surprise: when the screen is opened and unfolded, the circle transforms to new forms and the light flows in a new way, determined by the user.
"We design furniture and interior products with a strong sense of functionality, and we always strive to create memorable visual expressions. We bring our common curiosity and aesthetic understanding into play by creating high-quality products", explain the two designers.
Motarasu was founded in 2019 by Mikkel Zebitz. Zebitz is inspired by Japanese design and aesthetics. But where classic Danish designers, as well as contemporary designers, have largely let Japan serve as inspiration, Zebitz wanted to change this: "Motarasu" means "to change" in Japanese - by uniting the designers of the two nations to create modern design together. Art and nature are the key elements in designs from Motarasu, who work from the showroom in Frederiksgade in Copenhagen.
Dawn has two light sources that can be turned on and off separately. When the lamp shade is opened, the direction and amount of light is determined. There is a built-in dimmer, whereby the brightness can be adjusted to the preferred reading light.
The flexible lampshade is made of structured Japanese PVC-coated washi paper with light-proof plastic foil on the back. The oak slat creates friction against the lampshade and holds it in place in various positions that the user chooses.
The first 100 copies of Dawn are numbered from 1-100. It is not possible to order a specific number.
