Nesting Tables - four colorful nesting tables designed by the German-American artist, Josef Albers (1888-1976), in 1926. The timeless table set, originally created for the owners (and the artist's close friends) of the Moellenhoff-Haus in Berlin, stands today as a Bauhaus classic.

Nesting Tables combines the distinct geometric shapes and colors from Josef Albers' artistic palette, which includes both paintings, graphics, works in glass, decorations in various techniques – and also furniture.

Albers was particularly concerned with the relationship between color and form and the relativity of colours. Among his major works is the series of paintings, Homage to the Square, which he began in 1950, and where individual paintings from the series are part of the Louisiana collection.

Josef Albers was one of the most influential artists in the Bauhaus movement. After his studies at the art academies in Berlin, Essen and Munich, he came in 1920 to the Bauhaus school in Weimar, where after a short student period he became a teacher until and from 1926-1927, as creative director of the furniture line. It was during his years at school that Albers primarily worked with furniture design.

The Bauhaus movement was founded by the German architect, Walter Gropius, as an art school in Weimar in 1919. The mission here was to unite art and craft and to bring together different design disciplines such as theatre, architecture, design, print, ceramics, textiles etc.

The frame is made of solid oak and the table top of glass, which is imported from Italy. The tables are produced in a family-owned company in the Erzgebirge, Germany.
