The first detailed rendering of Swedish artist Hilma af Klint's groundbreaking Tree of Knowledge series: Images of enigmatic forms, visual allegories of union and separation, darkness and light, beginning and end, life and death, and spirit and matter. Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) is considered one of the pioneers of abstract art, although she was virtually unknown while she was working. Klint belongs to the first generation of academy-educated women in Europe and is hosted by many guests at Louisiana, which exhibited her striking images in 2014.
Although Hilma af Klint's paintings were first shown publicly in 1987, her work dates back to the early 20th century - before the first purely abstract paintings by Kandinsky, Mondrian and Malevich.
Deeply interested in spiritualism and philosophy, af Klint developed an iconography that explores esoteric concepts in metaphysics, as demonstrated in the Tree of Knowledge. Hilma af Klint's visual universe is visually strong, color-experimental and rich in symbols.
