In African Artists: From 1882 to Now, the Nigerian artist, art historian and curator, Chika Okeke-Agulu, together with editors at the publishing house Phaidon, reviews more than 300 works by modern and contemporary artists born or based in Africa.
The book was created in collaboration with a prestigious global advisory committee and presents, among others, artists El Anatsui, Marlene Dumas, David Goldblatt, Lubaina Himid, William Kentridge, Julie Mehretu, Wangechi Mutu and Robin Rhode, as well as lesser-known names from across Africa.
The book demonstrates the artists' contribution to a wide palette of artistic fields of work: Painting, sculpture, installation, photography, moving images and performance art.
