Exhibition poster with the work, Deus femmes courant sur la plage (La course) - Two running women on the beach (The Race), (1922) - by the Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso (1881 - 1973). The poster was published in connection with the Picasso exhibition in Louisiana in 1981 - the 100th year of Picasso's birth.
Louisiana has a special relationship with Picasso and the museum's first major Picasso exhibition took place as early as 1968. Throughout its more than 60-year history, Louisiana has held six more exhibitions with the great master – most recently, Picasso Ceramics, in 2018.
Two running women on the beach is from a period when Picasso returned to the human figure, classicism and antiquity - and here with experimental inspirations from theater and ballet.
With his versatile talent and his pioneering influence on a number of modern art's most central forms of expression, Picasso was an unrivaled leading star for the international development of modernism.
