Louisiana poster with the work, The Enclave, by the Irish artist, Richard Mosse (b. 1980), which Louisiana presented in 2015. Using a special military surveillance film, he depicted the civil war in eastern Congo in the photo and video work.
Richard Mosse is not a classic 'studio artist', but works with a documentary approach that brings him to places where war photographers typically work.
The central trick in Mosse's work was the use of a special military surveillance film that recorded the invisible spectrum of infrared light reflected by the chlorophyll of green plants. The film made the plants' natural foliage appear bright pink.
The work approached the divided war zone in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic (DR) Congo by letting us glimpse the logic of war - as an overwhelming, confusing, nightmare-like state, where quiet moments filled with beauty are punctuated by violent eruptions, and where fear constantly lurked beneath the surface.
