Rita Kernn-Larsen began her artistic career with surrealism in association with the Danish artists' association, Linien, in Copenhagen. During the 1930s, Rita Kernn-Larsen, like few other contemporary female artists, experienced great international recognition in intellectual and artistic circles.
In connection with her debut in 1934, one reviewer even characterized her as “a female, Danish Picasso.” Despite this, she has never quite gained the recognition she deserves in our time.
On the other hand, she made a name for herself especially in France and England, and it is here that Rita Kernn-Larsen will exhibit, live and work most of her life.
