Toiletry bag with hand-printed cherry and bird print designed by Danish textile artist Marie Gudme Leth. With her sense of beautiful patterns, she became a pioneering figure in Danish and international textile art. Now her iconic pattern Cherry is printed again.

The cheerful and colorful pattern with birds between cherry and peach branches today has iconic status within Danish handicrafts. The elegant and airy composition became especially popular when Queen Ingrid chose it to decorate one of the princesses' rooms.

Marie Gudme Leth loved flowers, and she was a fine artist who found inspiration in the Danish flora.

The pattern is related to the lush floral style that Marie Gudme Leth launched in the early 1940s. “In a dark time, people needed bright colors and colorful cheerfulness indoors,” she said, referring to World War I and the German occupation of Denmark.

The cherry pattern was the first to be produced using a new technique of photographically transferring the fabric pattern to the printing frames. This allowed for even greater precision in the drawing itself.

The textile is hand-printed at Frösö Handtryck in Northern Sweden, and since the motif is hand-printed, individual prints may vary.
