Naturpledd was designed by Kristine Five Melvær with inspiration from the yarn itself and the various techniques used in weaving, braiding, knots and knitting. The Naturpledd series is made from natural yarn without added colours.
Røros Tweed is a continuation of Hiort Foundation's home improvement business. It began with weaving courses in 1938, where the textiles were produced in people's private homes. Later, investments were made in machines and the factory's production is now concentrated on textiles made of 100% pure new wool, with designs that are often inspired by the cultural heritage and the fascinating high mountain nature of Røros.
Peder Hiort, who was director of the Røros Copperworks in the 18th century, bequeathed his entire fortune to the poor of Røros - a will which is characterized as one of the wisest donations in the Nordics, as it showed exceptional foresight and social responsibility, which still has its justification today in other parts of the world.
Kristine Five Melvær has a master's degree in industrial design and a master's degree in visual communication. She explores the subject of object communication, builds a bridge between product design and graphic design in her sensuous objects with a Scandinavian simplicity.
Naturpledd has been awarded the ICFF Editors Award for Best Textiles.
